Value Systems Underpinning Social Institutions and Practices: A Comparative Analysis of Russia and Serbia
We are pleased to announce a call for papers for a forthcoming thematic issue of Changing Societies & Personalities dedicated to the comparative analysis of the value systems that underpin social institutions and practices in Russia and Serbia. This thematic issue aims to advance scholarly understanding of the similarities and differences in the social structures, institutional processes, and collective values that shape societal dynamics in the two countries.
The thematic issue will focus on the multifaceted nature of social realities in Russia and Serbia, exploring how cultural values shape social practices, behaviors, and transformative processes. We particularly encourage submissions from collaborative research teams comprising scholars from both Russian and Serbian institutions, with the aim of fostering a genuinely comparative and mutually enriching academic dialogue.
Thematic Scope
We welcome original research articles that engage with the core theme, including papers that address the following key questions:
- Value systems as the basis of foreign policy orientations. How do terminal (highest-order) values, such as the preservation of national identity, underpin foreign policy orientations and political attitudes of both state and non-state actors?
- Axiological dimensions of social stratification and poverty. What value profiles shape how individuals living in poverty perceive, assess, and mobilize human, social, and institutional capital and how they translate these resources into strategies for overcoming deprivation?
- Intergenerational value transmission and transformation. In what ways does the axiological landscape of Generation Z in Russia and Serbia reflect a synthesis of traditional value systems and emerging value priorities shaped by global crises and pervasive digitalization?
- Health as a socio-legal construct: Axiology and human rights. What is the relationship between the intrinsic social value of health and its recognition as a fundamental human right in international legal discourse?
- Value-based governance and civic participation at the local level. To what extent do citizens’ value-based assessments of local government performance act as catalysts for, or barriers to, individual and collective civic participation?
- Value construction and communication in digital public spheres. How do communication strategies and narrative frames employed by various online actors (such as young bloggers and organizational web resources) construct and transmit specific values (e.g., patriotic, inclusive) to their audiences?
